Lying awake at night

So I have this little problem. Even if I'm tired I sometimes have trouble falling asleep at night, because my mind likes to think when I lay down. Lately it has been really bad- every night. I just lay down and then I start to think about things I need to do, ideas I have for projects, what I did that day, work, etc.

I try to think through things during the day so this won't happen, but lately it happens every night. No matter how prepared I am for the next day. I think I just have a lot going on and so my mind can't think through everything. I'm just trying to keep up and don't stop to have meditation time until I do go to bed.

I don't know what to do exactly to stop it. But since one of the many things I think about is all the things I need to blog, I will try to get up some blogs today! Maybe then I can take that off the list for tonight! :)

I do the same thing sometimes! One fix I have found is to fall asleep watching TV so it keeps your mind from wandering. This is a bad habit though, and I hate falling asleep with the TV on, but it seems to work. I tagged you...

Oh my gosh Sam, I've been having the same problem all week! I kept thinking it was because I drank coke too late, but I'm STILL having issues WITHOUT the coke. What's the deal?!?! (coca-cola that is...)

I have this same problem. I don't know how to turn off my brain...It's so bad I'm starting to think I should see a doctor!

i think this is a common "busy Mom" issue. I have found that I can't keep going going going, and then just hop in bed and expect to fall asleep. If I do that, I will have the same problem as you all -- guaranteed. I may be COMPLETELY exhausted physically and mentally, but if I work hard right up until bedtime, I can't fall asleep. My mind is still racing although my body is finally resting. I HAVE to have a bit of time to unwind my body and my mind. (Although this isn't always possible). Some things I have done in the past is STOP whatever I'm doing and give myself about a 1/2 hour to relax. Watch tv, read, call someone I've needed to call (if it's not too late). But my newfound FAVORITE way to unwind is to have "pillow talk" with Matt before bed. I think it helps to just talk to someone before bed, and then I don't just lie awake THINKING of all the things that run through my mind, I can talk about them and get them out. If I can have some down time and just talk to Matt about whatever, it seems to help my brain shut off when I'm ready to sleep. The additional opportunity to communicate is really nice too. I love my "pillow talk" time.

Another thing is that I've kept a pen and paper next to my bed before, because if my mind is racing trying to think of things I have to get done or remember, or something I need to figure out for tomorrow, I will just get back up, write down all of those things and then it's kinda like my brain is off the hook and I can relax enough to fall asleep.
