Sariah’s First Haircut

Sariah was fascinated by Ben’s haircut. So afterwards I asked, '”do you want me to cut your hair now?” She said “yep!”

I had already known that I wanted to get her hair trimmed because the ends were getting pretty bad and it caused it to tangle very easily. But I’m even more attached to her hair. She’s two and has never even had a trim!

So deep breath- here we go!

Hard to get a decent after picture because it was wavy from the pigtails. I did cut more than I had planned to, but it turned out super cute! Right at the shoulders!

Huh? Where's the egg?

It too Sariah a minute to get the hang of finding the eggs but she
really enjoyed her first Easter egg hunt! Mostly I think she enjoys
the inside of the egg!

The stocking photos

Okay, if you are a Mayo these photos will need no explanation, but for those of you who aren't here is the deal.

First, my mom started the tradition of making us stockings when we were born. She made them out of whatever yarn she had and all of ours are different. Since then she has been making stockings for each new in law and all the grandkids. She stopped putting names on them a while back, and so now we have to. After spending much of my Saturday putting James (yes I've had his for a while and never added the name) and Sariah's names on their stockings, I know why she stopped doing it. It took forever!! But here are our stockings:

The next tradition- I don't know when it started. I think with the first grandkid? Maybe my siblings can tell me. But it is another family tradition that you get your photo taken in your stocking on your first Christmas as a baby. So Sariah just barely missed the cut last year. So she is pretty big for her stocking but luckily they stretch really well. Here are her stocking pictures for her first Christmas:

And of course since she is older, part way through doing pictures she decided it was getting boring just sitting there. So we had a run away baby- stocking and all!

Sunday Christmas Pictures

So here are a few pictures from yesterday. Of course I wanted to get some of Sariah all dressed up in her Christmas skirt and leggings, but she wasn't thrilled with the idea:

We bribed her to sit with one of us with toys and funny noises!

More to come!!

Drinking

So on Sunday, our friend Marc asked me if Sariah had any jaundice because she looked a little yellow. I told him she has always had a bit of an olive complexion and I have no idea where she gets it from. But since he said that I have been looking at her more closely and she does seem a little yellow. James has always thought that she is dehydrated and now I'm starting to worry a bit. She really doesn't drink. She hasn't taken a bottle in a long time. She just refuses them. Doesn't want them in her mouth at all. I thought that was okay and I would just transition her straight to a sippy. No big deal. Well she had just finally started taking the sippy when she got sick. And now she is back to not really wanting it either. She will chew on them, but doesn't really want to drink out of it. I tried the straw again today. She actually took a couple of sips!! Whooo hooo. But I'm just thinking how can I get her to drink more. She really only nurses in the morning and at night. The doctor said that when I wean her completely, that she will start drinking because her thirst will kick in. But I don't think she is getting enough now. Any suggestions? I think I'm just going to have to really push it on her all the time. Just every spare second try to give her something.

Not sure about this Santa guy

So at our church Christmas party, we were treated to a special guest appearance by Mr. Santa himself. I've been debating about whether or not to take Sariah to go and have her picture taken with Santa. I thought this would be great to see what she thought of him. Well I think the picture says it all. She just cried- instantly- big crocodile tears!!

Exciting baby things

So a few things I need to post about my baby. She started actually crawling last week. Before she was doing her own thing of sort of swimming on her side. It worked. It got her places and was really cute to watch. But this last week on Tuesday the 25th, she actually did real crawling. Legs up and going along like she'd been doing it for years!!

Also she has a figured out one of her toys. She has a toy that you drop a ball into the top and at the bottom it hits a button that makes giggling noises and then it comes out the side. She she would every once in a while get lucky and get a ball in, but now.....she can get them in exactly. She has figured out how to let go at the top instead of throwing it and hoping it gets in.

She is as always jabbering up a storm. She says hi- which is REALLY cute. Yesterday she even said hi daddy. But other than that I have no clue what she is saying. But she is definitely a talker!

So just a few developments. She will be 11 months on the 7th so I know that means she is almost one. Although I'm denying it. I'm really not ready for her to be one. I love her being small and staying a baby. It goes by all to fast. But every moment with her is amazing!

Life's Rough

Well, life is rough. There are always ups and downs, but sometimes you hit some rough spots and then when you think they are getting better they get rougher. Not that you can't over come, but it is rough.

The past three days Sariah has been throwing up. Sunday, she threw up everything. Monday, about half of everything. And today just lunch mostly. James was sort of sick all weekend and stayed home Monday to help me and Sariah. Then came home early today because he was back to nausea. I was sick Sunday just upset stomach and then Monday slept most of the day. Today I'm back to normally. Sariah seemed to be getting back to normal tonight so I have high hopes for tomorrow. But it is just the pits when you are all sick. So I'm cleaning up from Sariah being sick trying really hard not to add to the mess. Ugh. I was glad to be good today. And I did take her to the doctor today and she said she was okay. That she wasn't dehydrated. That we were doing all the things we should. So that was a $20 copay- that I felt was totally worth it just to help my stress level.

Some other rough spots:

Last week was my ward enrichment. So those of you who don't know, I'm the ward enrichment leader. And I thought I had a great idea to do one of finances. I have a really good friend who was James' branch president when he was in the singles ward. He gave us really worth while advice when we got married that we have used everyday since. So I asked him to come and speak. I was very excited and nervous. And afterwards really frustrated. I thought he did an EXCELLENT job. I was so glad I asked him. But I was beyond disappointed in the turn out. We had 9 people. (And that is including me!) 9!! 9!! I mean really only 9!!??!! We have had more people turn out for the home decor group. I don't know what happened. What I could have done better. I just don't know where to start to motivate people to come. Was it the topic? Did we not get the word really out? Ugh! Okay I'm trying to move on!

The rest of the roughness is just my life right now. I'm not sure I want to publically share it. Part of me thinks that I do. To just get it out. But the more dominant part just isn't sure it is a public topic. So if your curiosity is getting the best of you, call me and maybe I'll tell you. But really it is just hard. I have just felt overwhelmed with things. I almost want too many things. I know I can't have the perfect life, but it doesn't stop me from wanting it.

Okay enough of a rant. I will make another post with pictures or happy thoughts or something! :)

Neverland

So last Friday was our ward Halloween party. Those of you who know me well, know that I love dressing for Halloween. And even more that I'm obsessed with costumes that all go together. So this year, it wasn't just James and I that I needed to coordinate- we had to include Sariah in on the fun. After many sleepless nights (hehehe j/k) I finally narrowed down the costumes to Peter Pan. Specifically: James was Peter Pan, I was Wendy and Sariah was Tinkerbell. Here's the pics:

Here's more of just Sariah (since I know that is what you really want to see!):

Costume Breakdown:

James: I made the shirt and hat and since he insisted on not wearing tights- he wore some brown pants he already owned.

Sam: Kiera and I hit the thrift stores that morning and luckily found this perfect blue nightgown for only $3.15.

Sariah: I made the tutu skirt, wings, and shoes and she already had the onesie, sweater, and tights.

Our new chair

So a few weeks back, Sariah successfully flipped herself out of the Bumbo. Which meant it was time for a new chair! So I didn't want to get a big high chair. They seem so bulky and I liked having her right at the table with us- with them Bumbo. So we found this:

And no don't get excited. She doesn't really drink out of her cup. Right now it is still just a toy! :( I put water in it with the hope that she will drink, but no luck yet. And yes I've tried helping her put it in her mouth- she doesn't like it when I do this as she is trying to play with it.

MORE TEETH!!

I know you have to look pretty close on the picture but I promise they are there! Sariah's top 2 front teeth have made their appearance. I could see them pushing for a while but they are now through!
Her gangster side binkie pose:

One of her clapping! Anytime you say Yay she will clap for you. And sometimes sporadically just do it. Weird- as I'm typing this she just clapped for no reason!

So what's new

It seems like whenever you see someone again after not having been in contact they ask "so what's new." I never know how to answer this. Usually it has been a while and so I'm sure many things have happened, but either my minds blanks or the things have all been resolved, or I'm just not sure they really want to hear the saga of my life. So what do you say-- the traditional oh not that much how about you?-- do you go into detail on all the happenings-- or meet in the middle and try to tell them a few big things (hopefully you have a few big things to say.)

So here goes with what's new- (If you want to be spared the saga of my life just stop here! hehe)

1) My little rolly polly! Last week Sariah figured out how to use rolling to get something she wants. People kept asking if she could crawl. I know that they are just making conversation but then I start to have complex and wonder if she should be able to and she isn't and maybe I'm not stimulating her enough... So I put her down with some toys- just out of reach. And while she isn't crawling she is moving a lot. It was like one day she just figured out how to move around and get to things. She is especially gifted at getting paper, electronic devices, and anything else I'm not sure I want her to have.

2) Clapping- Yep she can clap now. It is really cute! Her little chubby hands!

3) I finished painting my kitchen and living room. After almost 2 months, I'm done painting. It just kept going and going and going. But I love the results. I haven't taken pictures yet, but I will do so and post them soon.

4) My dad will start chemo treatment soon. End of the month is the plan.

5) James has been at his job a few months now and still loves it. I love that he comes home so much earlier. I feel like we can actually do things in the evening. With the other job, he would come home eat dinner and go to be pretty much. It is such a blessing to have him home by or before 5.

6) My work is going great. I've been a bit of a slacker this week, so the next few days I need to work harder. But I'm realizing how blessed I have it. I have pretty much the perfect job.

7) Jessie has moved out. She is in Connecticut now. This I think will be awesome for her. She will be able to learn a lot and really grow. It is weird to think that if James had stayed with his previous job, we would be the ones that had moved. I'm glad we stayed. I think this worked out the best for us- I could imagine moving or rather being moved already.

8) We got the DISH. James finally broke me down and convinced me to get the Dish with a DVR. I will admit to him that it hasn't increased how much TV we watch and now I just watch what I want.

9) John and Kate Plus 8 addiction. So now that we do have the dish, I'm addicted to John and Kate plus 8. I don't watch it that much, but I have it all DVRed for when I do want to watch TV. I just love them! I think they are funny and it makes me realize how simple and easy I have it. It is a good reality check that someone else has a lot more to do than me and I should be thankful.

10) I am working on my photography website. I plan to really work hard and have it done by next week. I want to get it up an running again. So I will let you know when you can check it out!

So I guess that is my 10 things of what is new with me. Now I will have to remember them for next time someone asks! :)

Waking up in the night

Okay, so I felt very blessed that Sariah started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks. But recently that blessing has ended. She is now waking up again on a pretty regular basis. Usually about 2:30 to 3:00 in the morning. I'm not sure what to do. Occasionally, she will put her self back to sleep after crying for a little while. But last night, no such luck. I got up with her. Changed her diaper and fed her and laid her back down and she slept until 8:30 this morning. I don't know if getting up with her is a good thing or not. Maybe it encourages her to wake up more if she knows I will come get her. But I do wait a while before going in. I'm trying to narrow down what is causing her to wake up as this has been going on for at least a month now- I think longer. I have the following ideas:

1) Teething- it looks like her top teeth are really trying to push through. Maybe they are bothering her and waking her up.

2) Congestion- I think this is from teething, but she has a very congested nose. Lately she has had trouble eating because she can't breath through her nose.

3) Hunger- I'm not sure what to do on this one. I do nurse her when she won't sleep. But I'm feeding her cereal and nursing her just before she goes to bed.

4) Noise- Maybe there is some noise happening around that time of night that I don't hear but it is enough to wake her up.

5) Growing- Maybe she is just growing and that is making her extra hungery and uncomfortable.

So any thoughts or suggestions?

First Pony Tail

Okay so I actually got Sariah's hair up in a clip in top of her head. Although it didn't stay like this for very long after the pictures, but for a short time it was so adorable.

Does she look like such a big girl in the next picture?

Teeth

Sariah got to teeth on the bottom at a little over 5 months. Kiera told me I needed to get pictures up on the blog of them. But anyone who has tried knows that it is SUPER hard to get pictures of a babies' teeth. Trying to hold the camera, hold their mouth open, get their tongue out of the way, keep their arms from grabbing the camera, and just hoping it focuses on the teeth.

So here is my latest attempt! Pretty good in my opinion!

I can sit up so big

Sariah is now sitting up. She has been able to for a while, but is getting really steady now. She still falls over when she gets too excited, but she is doing good!
